Police Arrest Inter-Provincial Gold Fraud Gang in Batang
A gang of inter-provincial gold fraud perpetrators was apprehended by officers from the Batang Police at their hideout in a hotel in the city of Pekalongan, Central Java. Seven suspects from various regions were successfully arrested and dozens of pieces of fake gold jewellery were secured as evidence.
All the suspects did not resist when raided by the Batang Police’s Resmob team at a hotel on Jalan Gajahmada, Pekalongan City. In addition to arresting the perpetrators, police also managed to secure evidence in the form of dozens of pieces of fake gold jewellery, a minibus car, mobile phones, and proceeds from the fraud amounting to Rp128 million.
This gold fraud gang each had their own roles, namely Febri Kristian Ludianto alias Febri, 46, who was in charge of communicating with victims, Jubriyono alias Jupri, 40, who received payment for transactions, and Ulfan Gozari alias Ulfan, 38, who monitored the situation behind the rented house.
Furthermore, Ahmad Nur alias Ahmad Imam, 66, acted as a provider of funds and owner of the gold, Edy Susanto, 40, and Ahmad Zaenuri, 26, as getaway drivers, and Ahmad Arifin, 52, also helped carry out the action.
“Six perpetrators are from Bondowoso and Situbondo, East Java, while one other suspect is from Kendal, Central Java,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Batang Police, Iptu Albertus Sudaryono, on Sunday (17/5).
Chronology of the Fraud
According to Albertus, the gold fraud case was revealed after a report was received from a victim with the initials AK, a resident of Desa Gadungsari, Wonosari District, Gunung Kidul. The victim claimed to have been scammed while carrying out a gold transaction at a rented house in Desa Babadan, Limpung District, Batang Regency.
As a result of the gold buying and selling fraud, Albertus Sudaryono continued, the victim lost Rp174 million. This was because, after payment was made and the jewellery was given, it turned out that the gold was fake. Meanwhile, the gang of seven people immediately fled through the back door of the rented house.
After receiving the report, said Albertus Sudaryono, police immediately deployed officers to carry out an investigation by examining CCTV footage around the location to track the whereabouts of the perpetrators. From there, it was learned that the direction of the perpetrators’ escape was towards Pekalongan City.
The Raid at the Hotel
Once the direction of the perpetrators’ escape was confirmed, Albertus Sudaryono said, the Roban Hood Resmob Team together with the Limpung Police Sector Criminal Investigation Unit were immediately deployed to carry out a pursuit. The police finally managed to arrest all the perpetrators in room number 122 at a hotel on Jalan Gajah Mada, Pekalongan City.
From the results of the raid, said Albertus Sudaryono, in addition to arresting seven suspects, officers also managed to secure a number of pieces of evidence. These include cash remaining from the fraud amounting to Rp128 million, gold jewellery in the form of eight bracelets, one necklace and four rings (believed to be genuine) as bait, and 10 gold bracelets (fake) used to convince victims during transactions. Police also confiscated a black minibus with license plate number P 1486 BCA and six mobile phones. (AS/P-2)
