Police arrest illegal firearms assembler in OKI, South Sumatra
Palembang (ANTARA) - The Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Resort Police in South Sumatra have arrested a man suspected of assembling and storing illegal firearms in Berkat Village, SP Padang District, OKI Regency, during Operation Senpi Musi 2026.
OKI Police Chief AKBP Eko Rubiyanto stated in a written release received in Palembang on Tuesday that the case came to light following public information regarding homemade firearms production in the area. Acting on the report, the Criminal Investigation Unit’s General Crimes Opsnal Team conducted an investigation and raided the suspect’s house on Monday at around 6:00 a.m. local time.
During the operation, officers detained a man identified by the initial N (60), who is alleged to have illegally produced homemade firearms at his residence. Based on initial examination, the suspect admitted that all the firearms found were his own handiwork.
Police subsequently seized a number of items as evidence, including two long-barrelled homemade firearms with wooden grips, one short-barrelled homemade revolver-type firearm, six rounds of ammunition of various calibres, one bullet casing, two Molotov cocktail bottles, one catapult with eight arrows, and two grinding machines suspected to have been used to assemble the firearms.
For his actions, the suspect has been charged under Article 306 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which relates to the possession, manufacture, storage, and control of firearms and ammunition without authorisation.
