Police Arrest Gang of Toll Road Iron Thieves in Pademangan
Jakarta — The Operational Team of Pademangan Police District’s Criminal Investigation Unit arrested six members of a specialised gang involved in stealing iron and cables from toll roads near Bintang Mas Police Post, Jalan RE Martadinata, North Jakarta, on Friday (27 February) at approximately 23:00 WIB.
First Investigator Ipda Jenal Mustopa stated that the arrest was marked by a brief chase when the suspects attempted to flee as officers apprehended them.
“The six suspects managed to flee, but we successfully captured all of them along with the evidence,” Jenal said in Jakarta on Friday.
The six suspects arrested were identified by initials as R (45), R (27), M (38), F (31), T (35), and A (31).
According to Jenal, the case began with a community report of individuals cutting up iron and cables at the location. Following up on the report, the operational team attended the scene and found the suspects in the act of stealing.
Officers also seized grinding equipment used to cut the iron and cables. Jenal stated that the suspects are believed to be part of a single criminal syndicate specialising in stealing iron materials.
“During the arrest, there was a chase between the operational team and the suspects,” he said.
Police are continuing to investigate the case to identify possible additional suspects. Investigators are also pursuing suspected receivers believed to be harbouring the stolen goods.
For their actions, the suspects are being charged under Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. This article addresses theft offences with a maximum prison sentence of five years.
Pademangan Police District urged victims who suffered losses from the theft to file reports for further legal proceedings, Jenal said.
