The Pademangan Police Station arrested six members of a criminal syndicate specialising in stealing steel and cables from toll road infrastructure near Bintang Mas Police Station on Jalan RE Martadinata, North Jakarta. The arrest involved a brief chase as the suspects attempted to flee.

“All six suspects attempted to escape, but we successfully apprehended them along with evidence materials,” said Operational Chief Ipda Jenal Mustopa in Jakarta, according to Antara, Saturday (28 February 2026).

The six suspects, with initials R (45), R (27), M (38), F (31), T (35), and A (31), were arrested on Friday (27 February) at approximately 23:00 Western Indonesian Time.

According to Jenal, the case began following a report from residents who witnessed several individuals cutting steel and cables at the location. Upon following up on the report, the operational team attended the scene and found the suspects in the act of theft.

Police subsequently arrested all six suspects and secured evidence including cut pieces of steel and cables from the theft. Officers also confiscated equipment including an angle grinder used to cut the steel and cables.

Jenal stated that the suspects are believed to be part of a syndicate that specialises in stealing steel materials. “During the arrest, there was a pursuit between the operational team and the suspects,” he said.

Police are continuing to develop the case to trace the possibility of additional perpetrators. Additionally, investigators are pursuing the suspected fence who allegedly received the stolen goods from the suspects.

For their actions, the suspects face charges under Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code. The suspects face a maximum prison sentence of five years.

“Pademangan Police Station urges any victims who have suffered losses due to this theft to file a report for further legal proceedings,” it added.
