Police arrest four suspects in padel employee assault case in South Jakarta
The police have arrested four perpetrators involved in the assault and confinement of a new employee at a padel court in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta. “There are four perpetrators, with the initials ASB, RRK, AH, and DW. These four perpetrators have been detained,” said South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head AKP Joko Adi to reporters on Friday. He explained that the arrests stemmed from a police report filed by a woman with the initial M. The woman stated that her child, with the initial AL, had not returned home for two days. After two days, the child finally communicated and asked to be picked up. M mentioned that her child was an employee who had only been working for two months and was suspected of stealing a padel racket on Sunday (21/6). However, the child was instead assaulted and confined by several other employees. “The reporting parent was worried. So, because of that worry, on Wednesday, 24 June, she came to the South Jakarta Police and filed a police report,” Joko stated. “A series of investigations were then conducted until it reached the inquiry stage and then identified the suspected perpetrators,” Joko added. Previously, a video went viral on the Instagram account @info.bintaro.jaksel showing a man accompanied by several other people in front of a padel court in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta. The incident began when the victim’s family was approached by individuals claiming that the victim, AL, who had only been working for less than two months, was suspected of stealing a padel racket. The padel court employees then demanded that AL’s parents pay compensation amounting to Rp50 million. The family negotiated to pay the amount in instalments, but the individuals insisted on full payment. The individuals then seized two motorcycles belonging to AL’s younger sibling along with a Xiaomi mobile phone. During this time, AL was taken to the padel court office and is strongly suspected of having been unlawfully confined and severely assaulted.
