Police Arrest Four Suspects in Assault on Railway Crossing Officer in Garut

The Garut Resort Police, together with the Mobile Investigation Unit (Resmob) of the West Java Regional Police’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate, have arrested four suspects in the assault of a railway crossing officer. The victim, Andika Tri Juliansyah, 26, a resident of Cibatu District, Garut Regency, was attacked while on duty at the Leuwigoong railway crossing in Sindangsari Village, Leuwigoong District, on Sunday (12/7) afternoon.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Garut Police, AKP Herman Saputra, stated that the victim was performing his duty of closing the crossing gate as a train was approaching. Four individuals allegedly arrived and attempted to force the portal open. “The victim reprimanded the four individuals for the sake of road user safety and smooth train operations. However, the suspects did not accept this and jointly assaulted him, punching him with their bare hands, causing bruising to his face and head, and scratch wounds on his left hand,” he said on Wednesday (15/7).

According to Herman, the four suspects are IS, 44, AW, 35, NK, 59, residents of Leles District, Garut Regency, and DAM, 31, a resident of Babakan Ciparay District, Bandung City. Officers also seized evidence including two motorcycles, and the clothing and footwear worn during the incident. “We successfully arrested the four suspects at different locations after their identities were established. Investigators are still conducting intensive examinations and probing the roles of the perpetrators, as well as completing the case file for further legal proceedings,” he said.

He added that the Garut Police force is committed to taking firm action against all forms of violent crime, especially against officers performing public service duties. The actions of the suspects violated regulations and are against the law. “We urge the public to obey safety rules at railway crossings and to resolve any issues through legal channels, not through anarchic actions,” he stressed.
