Police arrest foreign national in assault case resulting in death in South Jakarta
Jakarta - The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has arrested a Bruneian national, identified as MIA, in connection with an alleged assault that led to the death of fellow Bruneian national MHF.
AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy, Sub-Director III of the Investigation and Mobile Unit (Tahbang/Resmob) at Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the incident occurred on May 6, 2026, in the Jalan Sultan Hasanudin area, Melawai, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
‘The team has secured one suspect in connection with the alleged assault resulting in the victim’s death,’ Resa said.
He explained the assault allegedly took place around 2:00 AM WIB, causing severe head injuries to MHF, who was later pronounced dead.
Following in-depth investigations, police arrested suspect MIA in the early hours of Monday (25 May) in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
According to Resa, the arrest followed police procedures including crime scene processing, witness interviews, and thorough analysis of CCTV footage.
‘Based on the investigation, the team successfully identified the suspect. Subsequently, the arrest was carried out,’ Resa said.
Police seized evidence including the suspect’s clothing and shoes worn during the incident, as well as CCTV screenshots to strengthen the legal case.
The suspect faces charges under Article 466(3) and/or Article 468(2) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (KUHP) for assault resulting in death.
Previously, police investigated the assault case involving foreign national MHF, who died in Blok M, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Kebayoran Baru District Police Chief AKBP Nugrahadi Kusuma confirmed the incident and stated a police report had been filed.
A viral Instagram video uploaded by @viraljakartaselatan showed an altercation between individuals, with one person lying on the ground after being assaulted. The account noted the victim was taken to hospital but could not be saved.
