Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint patrol team from the B Battalion of the Mobile Brigade (Satbrimob) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police together with the Perintis Presisi unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police secured five young men suspected of planning an illegal street race on Jalan Pemuda, Pulogadung, early Sunday morning, after receiving reports from the public regarding suspicious activity in the area.

“The five young men and their motorcycles were taken into custody for further data collection and examination by local police,” said Commander of the Mobile Brigade of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Henik Maryanto in Jakarta, Sunday.

The action was carried out after officers received reports from the public regarding suspicious activity in the area.

Residents reported a gathering of young men with several motorcycles suspected of being used for illegal racing.

In response to this information, the joint patrol team immediately moved to the location at around 04.19 WIB.

Upon arrival at the location, officers found a number of young men gathered on the side of the road with several two-wheeled vehicles.

The officers then carried out an examination of the young men and the vehicles at the location.

According to Henik, dawn patrols are continuously being increased to maintain public security and order, especially in areas prone to brawls and illegal racing.

The joint patrol is a form of rapid response from the police in following up on public complaints regarding disturbances to public safety and security that disturb residents.

“This illegal racing not only disturbs residents, but also endangers road users and those involved. Therefore, routine patrols are continuously being increased, especially during peak hours before dawn,” explained Henik.

In addition to dispersing the suspected illegal race, the joint personnel also carried out sweeps in a number of areas considered prone to disturbances to security and public order in the East Jakarta area.

Henik hopes that the presence of police officers in the field can provide a sense of security for the community, especially for residents who are still active until early morning and road users who pass through the area.

Henik also appealed to the public to immediately report any potential security disturbances, brawls or illegal racing activities through the Call Center 110 service so that they can be followed up by officers in the field.
