Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have arrested a 23-year-old man with the initials WA for allegedly stealing two rolls of fabric from a house in the Duri Selatan area of Tambora, West Jakarta. The suspect, a resident of Kalianyar, was caught shortly after trying to escape from residents and police officers who were patrolling the area. “The incident occurred on Saturday (13/6). The perpetrator initially intended to look for valuables, but didn’t find any. He then took the two rolls of fabric,” said Panit Reskrim of Tambora Police, Ipda Priyo Purnomo, when contacted on Thursday. The theft began at 6 p.m. local time at the residence of the victim, Tjung Sau Pin, on Jalan Duri Selatan VII, Tambora. “The victim was checking the CCTV and saw the perpetrator carrying a sack towards the gate,” Priyo said. The victim and his wife immediately went downstairs to investigate. “When they reached the ground floor, they couldn’t find the perpetrator at first. But after searching, they found him hiding under a table,” he stated. When questioned, the perpetrator claimed he was looking for his foreman named Denis. He then suddenly ran out of the house, prompting the victim to shout ‘thief’, which attracted the attention of nearby residents. The perpetrator was eventually surrounded by residents. Officers who received the information quickly moved to the location to secure the suspect from the crowd. “The arrest took place around 6.30 p.m.,” Priyo said. Based on initial examination, the perpetrator admitted to stealing fabric worth Rp2 million. The suspect and the evidence are currently being held at Tambora Police Station for further investigation.
