Police arrest crew, seize 19 ships

SURABAYA: The East Java Maritime Police have confiscated 19
vessels and nabbed several of their crew members for carrying
illicit goods into the country.

"Four of the 19 ships are found to have committed violations,
while the others are being investigated," Maritime Police chief
Sr. Comr. Tony Suhartono said on Sunday.

"One of the ships was caught carrying goods that had been
banned, while others were found to have shipped goods unlisted on
their shipping documents," he said.

The investigation into the 19 ships involves experts from the
ministry of forestry and ministry of trade and industry, along
with the customs office, he added. -- Antara
