Police Arrest Armed Youth in Karawang After Viral Robbery Footage
The Resmob Jatanras unit of the Karawang Police Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a young man suspected of involvement in a brawl and violent theft. The arrest was made after the brutal act went viral on social media via CCTV footage that alarmed residents.
Karawang Police Public Relations Head, Ipda Cep Wildan, confirmed that officers identified and arrested one of the main suspects seen in the video. “Following up on public concern regarding the viral video of a group of teenagers armed with sharp weapons in the Klari area, the Resmob Jatanras team conducted intensive investigations. As a result, we have managed to secure one suspect,” said Ipda Cep Wildan on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
According to police data, the criminal act occurred on Saturday, 6 June 2026, at around 3.30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The location was in front of a Madurese food stall in Cirejag Hamlet, Blendung Village, Klari District, Karawang Regency. The incident began when two teenagers were gathered in front of the stall. Suddenly, a group of youths on motorcycles arrived, allegedly intending to start a brawl. The group mistook the two teenagers for members of a rival group.
“The two victims, who knew nothing, immediately became targets of intimidation and assault. The CCTV footage clearly shows several perpetrators armed with sharp weapons during the attack,” he explained. The situation became tense when one of the victims tried to save himself by entering the Madurese stall. Although the stall owner shouted at the perpetrators not to enter, the frenzied group instead vented their aggression by making off with the victim’s motorcycle before fleeing.
The case was uncovered following an in-depth analysis of the viral CCTV footage by officers, supported by information from the local community. The Jatanras team eventually arrested the suspect, identified by the initials AHS, aged 21, a resident of Krajan II Hamlet, Gintung Kerta, Klari District. “During interrogation, the suspect AHS admitted to his actions. He confirmed that he was the one carrying a sharp weapon, a sickle, during the attack, along with his accomplice who is still being pursued,” Ipda Cep Wildan stated. Currently, AHS and the evidence are being held at the Karawang Police Headquarters for further examination. The police are continuing to develop the case to hunt down the other members of the group involved in the criminal act.
