Police arrest armed mugger in Penjaringan, brandishing revolver at residents
An armed mugger identified as ERK was arrested by the Reskrim Unit of Metro Penjaringan Police Station after attempting to rob residents in the Jembatan DHI area, Jalan Kapuk Raya, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The incident began from a misunderstanding on Thursday, 21 May 2026, according to the Penjaringan Police Chief, AKBP Agta Bhuwana Putra, who spoke alongside the head of Reskrim, AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea.
According to police, ERK shouted coarse words at witnesses SR and CL before stopping his motorcycle about 20 metres from their position. The suspect then approached SR and CL while drawing a firearm. “The suspect produced a revolver mini and brandished it at victim SR. The suspect threatened, ‘I will shoot you’,” the Kapolsek said.
Despite being under threat, SR offered resistance. While being brandished, SR managed to throw the suspect to the ground. With assistance from nearby residents, ERK was restrained and handed over to officers at the scene.
ERK and the evidence have been taken to the Metro Penjaringan Police Station for further examination, including tracing the weapon’s origin and the suspect’s motive, which investigators suspect may be linked to robbery.
Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity or individuals carrying sharp weapons or firearms in public spaces.
