Police Arrest Armed Motorcycle Thief in Tangerang City, One Still at Large
Unit 1 Krimum Jatanras of the Tangerang City Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit has arrested a man suspected of involvement in a number of motorcycle thefts in the Tangerang City area. A sharp weapon, a sickle, and a T-key were seized.
“The suspect, with the initials IS (36), was arrested when he was found carrying a sharp weapon of the sickle type and a T-key which are suspected to have been used as tools to steal motorcycles,” said Tangerang City Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Parikhesit in his statement on Sunday (23/8/2026).
The arrest was carried out by the Operational Team of Unit 1 Krimum, led by Ipda Algifari Hafiz, on Thursday evening (20/8). Police seized a number of items of evidence, including a sickle, a T-key with its key bits, two mobile phones, and a Honda Beat motorcycle.
AKBP Parikhesit said the disclosure began when officers arrested the suspect for being found carrying a sharp weapon and a T-key. During examination, police developed the case further.
“When he was detained, the suspect was found carrying a sickle and a T-key stored inside the motorcycle seat. From the examination results, we then developed the case to a number of theft locations where the suspect had previously operated,” said Parikhesit.
From the development of the case, the suspect admitted to having committed motorcycle thefts several times in the Jatiuwung and Karawaci areas together with an accomplice with the initials P. P is currently still being pursued.
“One of the thefts that was uncovered occurred on Jalan Samiaji, Nusajaya Urban Village, Karawaci District, Tangerang City. The stolen motorcycle was then sold to someone with the initials K in the Pandeglang area, Banten, for Rp 4 million,” he explained.
“The suspect admitted to receiving a share of Rp 2 million from the sale of the stolen motorcycle. Some of the money was then used to buy clothes, which have now also been seized as evidence,” he added.
In this case, police also secured the victim’s Honda Beat motorcycle registration book and vehicle registration certificate as well as the vehicle ignition key. The suspect is now undergoing investigation at Unit 1 Krimum of the Tangerang City Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code concerning aggravated theft, with a maximum penalty of up to 7 years in prison.
