The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kelapa Gading Police have arrested a man, identified by initials EG (54), suspected of aggravated burglary at a unit in the Grand Emerald Apartment, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. Kelapa Gading Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Kiki Tanlim stated on Thursday that the suspect was arrested in the Tanjung Priok area after evading capture for nine days. ‘The suspect was secured by Opsnal personnel at the Green Lake Sunter Apartment security post in Tanjung Priok on Wednesday evening at around 20:00 WIB,’ Kiki said. He explained that the theft targeted victim Edi Mulijati on 1 June 2026. The incident began when the victim returned to the apartment unit to find the front door already open, with hinges damaged from being forced. Upon inspection, the victim discovered a MacBook Air M2 and a Samsung A05 mobile phone missing from the bedroom. The victim subsequently reported the incident to the apartment management and the Kelapa Gading Police. ‘Based on CCTV footage, the suspect entered the apartment area by deceiving a water gallon delivery worker to access the lift to the seventh floor. The suspect then descended via the emergency stairs to the sixth floor towards the targeted unit,’ Kiki stated. These efforts proved successful after security at the Green Lake Sunter Apartment recognised the presence of a man matching the description and immediately contacted the police. During the arrest and search, officers discovered evidence including a small crowbar used to break open the door, as well as clothing, glasses, and shoes identical to those in the CCTV footage from the scene. During questioning, suspect EG admitted to all actions. The suspect also revealed that the stolen electronic goods had been sold to an unknown person in the Poncol area, Senen, Central Jakarta, for Rp1,100,000. ‘The money from the sale of the stolen goods was admitted by the suspect to have been used for daily necessities and to purchase methamphetamine-type narcotics,’ Kiki said. For his actions, the suspect is now detained at the Kelapa Gading Police jail and is charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code concerning Aggravated Burglary.
