Police Arrest Acehnese Man for Insulting Prophet Muhammad on TikTok
Police have arrested a man named Dedi Saputra after he was reported for insulting Prophet Muhammad on TikTok. Dedi was apprehended in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan.
“The individual was arrested in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan, on 18 February,” said Aceh Regional Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate Chief Commissioner Wahyudi, through Cyber Unit 3 Head Inspector Adam Maulana, on Sunday (22/2/2026).
Based on a video uploaded to the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate’s account, Dedi was seized by Aceh Regional Police personnel on a main road while riding a motorcycle. Following his arrest, Dedi was taken to the Aceh Regional Police headquarters.
Adam explained that Dedi has been named a suspect and is currently being held in the Aceh Regional Police detention facility. He has been charged under the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law and the Criminal Code.
Previously, Dedi was reported to the Aceh Regional Police under report number LP/B/357/XI/2025/SPKT/Polda Aceh on Wednesday (5/11/2025). The complainant was the Chairman of PW PII Aceh, Mohd Rendi Febriansyah.
Rendi stated that the report was filed by PII together with the Sharia Islam Office, the Civil Service Police Unit/Wilayatul Hisbah of Aceh, and Islamic organisations. Dedi’s video, which allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad and Muslim converts, had gone viral on social media.
