Police Arrest 69 People Following Clashes at Hotel Sultan

Police have arrested dozens of people following clashes during the execution of a land seizure at Hotel Sultan on Thursday (18/6). “We have detained 69 people and the number may still increase,” said Head of Public Relations Commissioner Budi Hermanto in Jakarta on Thursday (18/6). According to Budi, those detained are individuals suspected of obstructing the execution process. The execution of the Hotel Sultan land in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Central Jakarta, was carried out today. The Hotel Sultan land is a state asset that was acquired by the government around 1959 for the Asian Games IV. For 50 years, the land asset has been used by PT Indobuildco with many irregularities in the process. The execution earlier turned chaotic. A number of masses pelted officers with stones and bottles. The masses rejected the execution.
