The execution of a land eviction at the former Hotel Sultan in GBK, Senayan, Central Jakarta, turned violent, leading to the arrest of 69 people. “We have detained 69 individuals,” said Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Head, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, at the scene on Thursday (18/6/2026), adding that the number could increase.

The chaos erupted after a court bailiff read out the execution order for the land. A crowd of sympathisers initially shouted in protest, demanding that the authorities halt the eviction. The situation escalated when the group began throwing stones and other objects at officers.

Police officers equipped with shields advanced to push back the crowd, supported by military personnel. Authorities then deployed water cannons to disperse the remaining protesters. Several individuals who were allegedly obstructing the execution and instigating the violence were subsequently detained by police at the location.
