Police Arrest 5 Muggers Who Targeted Firefighter in Central Jakarta
Police have arrested five perpetrators who mugged firefighter Bimo Margo Hutomo (30) in Gambir, Central Jakarta. The five suspects are still undergoing intensive questioning. “Yes, it’s true (five muggers of the firefighter have been arrested). They’re still being examined first,” said the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, on Tuesday (14/4/2026). The five suspects were apprehended by a joint team from the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort’s Criminal Investigation Unit and the Gambir Metro Police Sector’s Criminal Investigation Unit. Police captured the perpetrators in an apartment in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta, on Monday (13/4) night. Police are still delving into the case by examining the suspects. There is no information yet on the identities of the five arrested perpetrators. During the arrests, police seized several pieces of evidence. The roles of the five suspects in this case are also still being investigated. “The details later. I’ll release them soon,” he said. Firefighter Mugged and Beaten A firefighter became a mugging victim on Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari, Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4). The victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone were taken. The victim sustained several injuries from being beaten by a gang of muggers. “He has injuries to the head, abrasions on the face and wrists,” said Acting Head of Criminal Investigation at Gambir Metro Police Sector, Iptu Heri Moko, on Tuesday (7/4). Police have conducted a medical examination of the victim at Tarakan Hospital. Police also processed the crime scene in investigating the case. “From the hospital’s statement, there is a possibility of treatment due to the injuries suffered, followed by immediate treatment and care by the hospital,” he said. The mugging went viral on social media, as seen by detikcom on Tuesday (7/4). From the circulating video, the victim appears to be cornered by several perpetrators and then beaten. The victim, who had just returned from a friend’s house, was cornered by the perpetrators, beaten until hit with a stone, resulting in his motorcycle being taken away. The victim sustained injuries to his head, face, and hands from being beaten by the perpetrators. “The perpetrators kicked the victim until he fell, and the victim was kicked and hit with a stone at the scene. Then the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone were taken away by the perpetrators,” said Iptu Heri.
