Police Arrest 2 Drug Couriers Carrying 80 Kg of Methamphetamine in Asahan, 1 Controller Still at Large
Medan Metropolitan Police have arrested two drug couriers who were carrying 80 kg of methamphetamine and 50,000 ecstasy pills in Asahan Regency, North Sumatra. The suspects were controlled by a woman who remains at large.
Medan Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak said two suspects had been apprehended so far, identified as YNP (31) and SB (58).
"This case involves the seizure of 80 kg of methamphetamine and 50,000 ecstasy pills. There are two suspects, namely YNP and SB," Calvijn said at a press conference on Saturday (21/2).
Calvijn explained that the two suspects were apprehended on the Trans-Sumatra Highway in Air Teluk Kiri Village, Teluk Dalam Subdistrict, in the early hours of Wednesday (11/2). At the time, both were inside a vehicle driven by YNP.
After the vehicle was intercepted, police discovered 80 kg of methamphetamine and 50,000 ecstasy pills inside. Calvijn explained that the two suspects did not initially know each other. However, both were instructed by a woman identified only as L to collect the drugs in Tanjungbalai.
Suspect YNP was promised Rp 280 million by suspect L for collecting the narcotics, whilst suspect SB was offered Rp 100 million. Tempted by the offer, both suspects departed from Jambi heading to Tanjungbalai. The drugs were reportedly intended to be delivered to Pekanbaru.
