Police: Argument heard before woman in Angke allegedly murdered by husband

Jakarta - Police have revealed that residents heard a dispute or argument between a woman, identified by the initial R (40), and her husband, ES (30), before the housewife was found dead in a suspected murder by her spouse.

The victim was discovered in a distressing condition at her residence on Jalan Padamulya VIII RT/RW 001/09, Angke, Tambora, West Jakarta, on Friday afternoon.

“It began on Friday, 19 June 2026, at around 2 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, when the reporter and witnesses (neighbours of the victim) heard a commotion between the perpetrator and the victim, a married couple, from inside the house,” said Tambora Police Chief AKP Wahyu Hidayat when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday evening.

Wahyu disclosed the chronology after examining several witnesses near the crime scene of the alleged murder.

Wahyu recounted that the victim’s neighbours chose to ignore the argument between the perpetrator and the victim. “The witnesses did not want to interfere because it was a domestic matter between the perpetrator and the victim,” Wahyu stated.

Later, at around 3 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, as the reporting witness passed by the victim’s house, the couple’s child, identified by the initial R (5), told them that the victim had been strangled by the perpetrator using a cloth. “R also told them that the victim had died,” Wahyu said.

Upon receiving the report, the witness relayed the information to other witnesses. “Then together they peeked into the victim’s house and saw the victim in a sitting position in the living room, with liquid coming out of her mouth,” Wahyu said.

The discovery was immediately reported to the local neighbourhood association head and forwarded to the Tambora Police Sector.

“Subsequently, the on-duty rapid response team arrived at the crime scene and found the victim in a sitting position with a bed sheet tied around her neck and secured to the window bars,” Wahyu said.

Police officers examined several witnesses in the vicinity and obtained information that the victim was allegedly murdered by her husband. “While the rapid response team was securing the crime scene, the perpetrator came out of his house and was immediately detained and taken to the Tambora Police Sector,” Wahyu said.

The case is currently being handled by the Women and Children Protection Unit of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Division.
