The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Penjaringan Metro Police, North Jakarta, has arrested two suspects involved in a motorcycle theft in the Luar Batang area, Penjaringan, a zone known for high rates of vehicle theft.

The suspects have been identified by their initials as S (37), a resident of Muara Baru, and M (27), a resident of the Waduk Pluit Flat complex, Penjaringan. During interrogation, both admitted to stealing a motorcycle belonging to MS (35), a private sector employee residing in Luar Batang. The duo reportedly sold the stolen vehicle to an individual identified by the initial A in the Pangkalan KWK Kapuk Gresinda area, Kapuk.

Agta confirmed that the suspects are currently being held at the Penjaringan Metro Police Station for further investigation. “We have also secured CCTV footage and are examining the complainant and several witnesses to complete the legal process,” he said.

The theft occurred on Wednesday (13/5) at approximately 13:00 WIB on Jalan Luar Batang, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The victim discovered the motorcycle was missing upon returning to the vehicle and attempted to search the surrounding area, but was unsuccessful. The victim subsequently reported the loss of the motorcycle to the Penjaringan Metro Police.

Following the report, officers conducted an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage, which identified two perpetrators. The victim was able to recognise one of the suspects, enabling a rapid pursuit. Armed with this information, the suspects were apprehended by the victim and local residents with the assistance of the Penjaringan Metro Police Criminal Unit.

Agta urged the public to remain vigilant when parking vehicles and to ensure ignition keys are not left in motorcycles. He expressed appreciation for the active role played by the community in providing information and assisting in the apprehension of the suspects. He further advised residents to use additional security locks and to avoid leaving keys in vehicles to prevent crime.

“We reaffirm our commitment to increasing patrols and ensuring a rapid response to all reports of public order disturbances to maintain the security and comfort of the community in the North Jakarta area,” Agta concluded.
