Police Apprehend Six Debt Collectors for Assaulting Residents in Bandung
Bandung Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) has apprehended six debt collectors (DCs) or “mata elang” who carried out a gang assault against two motorcycle riders on Pasirluyu Road, Regol District, Bandung City. They are currently undergoing interrogation before being formally charged in connection with the assault case.
Kasatreskrim Bandung AKBP Anton stated that the assault perpetrated by the debt collectors against the two motorcycle riders, which went viral on social media, occurred on Sunday, 8 March 2026 on Pasirluyu Road, Bandung City. As a result of the incident, he said the victims sustained injuries to their faces.
“There was a debt collection that, according to the victims, did not comply with regulations. The victims approached the debt collector group and a dispute arose there. A commotion occurred and subsequently an assault took place,” he said at the Satreskrim office on Badak Singa Road on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
He continued that both victims filed reports at Regol Police Station, and an immediate investigation was launched. Anton stated that on Wednesday, 12 March 2026 evening, all six perpetrators were apprehended.
“Alhamdulillah, we apprehended six individuals involved in the assault incident last night,” he said.
Anton continued that the six individuals are currently undergoing interrogation with their respective roles being clarified. Subsequently, the police will formally charge them.
“After this we will charge those with sufficient evidence and will pursue further legal proceedings,” he said.
He stated that the perpetrators are being charged under Article 262 of Law Number 1 of 2023 with a maximum sentence of nine years. Various evidence items were seized including mobile phones and the perpetrators’ clothing.
“The modus operandi of the perpetrators here involved committing violence against the victims. Some used bare hands and some also used striking implements in the form of iron concealed in their fingers,” he said.
Previously, video footage showing two motorcycle riders suffering injuries to their heads and faces on Pasirluyu Road, Regol District, Bandung City went viral on social media. The victim, identified as AA (44 years old), was allegedly assaulted by debt collectors.
In a post by Kombes Pol Manang Soebeti, the victim lay on the roadside grimacing in pain whilst holding his head. He stated that residents who came to assist were also assaulted by the debt collectors.
Another victim was also in pain, leaning against a shop. Blood was flowing from the head and face of both victims. They had shouted accusations of theft at the debt collectors before the latter fled the scene.
