The flight of Jimmy Lie, an Interpol fugitive, has come to an end. After nearly half a year on the run, he has finally been captured in Malaysia.

Jimmy Lie is an Indonesian citizen who was placed on the Interpol red notice list after fleeing the country. He is a fugitive in a bribery case involving approximately Rp 1 billion in bribes for the processing of land certificates through the Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL) in Tangerang Regency. During the legal proceedings, Jimmy Lie fled and was subsequently listed on the Interpol red notice in September 2025, with his location detected in Malaysia.

Apprehended in Malaysia

The International Relations Division (Divhubinter) of the Indonesian National Police, through the Indonesian Interpol NCB Secretariat, apprehended the Interpol fugitive Jimmy Lie. The bribery suspect in the land certificate processing case through the Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL) in Tangerang Regency was picked up by officers on Sunday, 8 February.

Jimmy Lie, an Indonesian citizen, has been on the red notice list since 22 September 2025. His capture was made possible through cooperation between Divhubinter Polri, Tangerang City Metro Police, and Malaysian authorities.

Kombes Ricky Purnama, Head of the NCB Interpol Secretariat of Divhubinter Polri, explained that this success began with intensive coordination between Divhubinter Polri and the Putrajaya Immigration authorities of Malaysia on 3 March 2026. The meeting discussed the request for apprehension and return operations for Jimmy Lie.

“As a follow-up, on 8 March 2026, Malaysian immigration authorities successfully secured the subject in their jurisdiction,” said Kombes Ricky in his statement on Monday, 9 March.

Escorted from Medan

On Sunday, 8 March, under the direction of Indonesian Interpol NCB Secretary Brigjen Pol Untung Widiatmoko of Divhubinter Polri, technical staff of the Indonesian National Police (STP) at the Indonesian Consulate General in Penang were ordered to directly escort the subject to Indonesia.

“Given the limitations of direct flights from Penang to Jakarta, the subject was flown via the Penang to Medan route and arrived at Kualanamu International Airport at 17:30 West Indonesian Time,” he added.

In parallel, a team from Divhubinter Polri along with the Criminal Investigation Unit of Tangerang City Metro Police departed Jakarta for Medan at 14:30 West Indonesian Time to conduct an official pickup at Kualanamu Airport, Deli Serdang. After undergoing a flight fitness examination, Jimmy Lie was then flown to Jakarta on Sunday, 8 February at 20:00 West Indonesian Time.

“The subject landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 22:30 West Indonesian Time,” he added.

Bribery Case Suspect

An Indonesian citizen named Jimmy Lie has been arrested after becoming an Interpol fugitive. Jimmy Lie was apprehended by authorities in Malaysia after being added to Interpol’s red notice list.

“Jimmy Lie is a suspect in a bribery case related to the processing of land certificates through the Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL) in Tangerang Regency,” said Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari, Head of Tangerang City Metro Police, in his statement on Monday, 9 March.

Kombes Jauhari explained that the case began in 2022 when the suspect Hasbullah allegedly requested assistance from the then-Head of Kalibaru Village, H Sueb, to process an increase in the status of land owned by Jimmy Lie through the PTSL programme.

“In this process, it is suspected that bribery took place to expedite the processing of documents for the upgrade of land rights status owned by Jimmy Lie and other related parties,” he said.

Jauhari revealed that Jimmy Lie is suspected of bribing the village head nearly Rp 1 billion to facilitate the processing of the documents.

“A total of Rp 960 million was given to the village head to facilitate the document processing, which is suspected to have not gone through the official mechanisms in accordance with the PTSL programme’s technical guidelines,” he said.

Three Other Suspects Already Convicted

The case was previously processed legally and involved several other suspects. Four individuals have been tried and convicted at the Corruption Court in Serang, Banten.

The Corruption Court sentenced Hasbullah to 2 years and 9 months imprisonment, H Sueb to 1 year and 9 months imprisonment, Iman Nugraha to 1 year and 9 months imprisonment, and Raden Febie Firmansyah to 1 year and 9 months imprisonment.

During the investigation process, Jimmy Lie failed to respond to police summonses. He was later found to have left Indonesia.

“Jimmy Lie failed to comply with summonses from investigators and was found to have left Indonesia while prevention and deportation procedures were being processed,” the official said.

Investigators from Tangerang City Metro Police then placed him on the wanted persons list (DPO). Additionally, investigators from Tangerang City Metro Police requested the issuance of a red notice for Jimmy Lie through Divhubinter Polri.
