Police apprehend driver for reckless driving in Central Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta Police have apprehended a driver, identified as HM (24), for reckless driving in the Central Jakarta area on Wednesday.
“Currently, the driver and another individual from the Toyota Cayla vehicle have been secured, along with the vehicle itself,” said the Chief of the Central Jakarta Police, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Reynold explained that the incident began at 17:15 local time when traffic police officers, who were managing traffic flow on Jalan Gunung Sahari, noticed a black Toyota Cayla driving recklessly.
“A pursuit was initiated, and the vehicle made a U-turn from Gunung Sahari towards Senen,” he said.
However, Reynold stated that several victims were grazed during the incident as the reckless driver made the U-turn, involving drivers of two-wheeled vehicles.
“We are currently gathering the victims and will immediately transport them to the hospital,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of the driver being under the influence, Reynold stated that they are conducting further investigations.
“We will immediately conduct a urine test and health check on the driver to determine if there is any indication of drug use that may have contributed to the reckless driving,” he said.
Previously, a video circulated on the Instagram account @wargajakarta.id, showing a car surrounded by a group of people and police in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta.
“The minibus with license plate number D 1640 AHB, driven by HM, was initially travelling from north to south. When the officers attempted to stop the vehicle near the Lapangan Banteng bus stop, the driver refused to stop and instead accelerated,” the account stated.
