Jakarta, VIVA – A number of community elements grouped under the Anti-Corruption Youth and Student Movement (GPM-AK) staged a protest in front of Polda Metro Jaya, urging the National Police’s anti-corruption taskforce (Kortastipidkor) to thoroughly investigate a major suspected corruption case, following the discovery of 74 kg of gold and nearly half a trillion rupiah in cash during searches at several locations.

The protesters carried various banners and posters voicing their demands. One poster highlighted the contrast between the people’s economic conditions and the suspected corruption case being handled by the National Police.

One of the participants, Amri, stressed in his oration the importance of the courage of the police anti-corruption taskforce to uncover this case down to its roots.

“We are gathered here from the Anti-Corruption Student and Youth Movement. Our presence is certainly a form of encouragement and support for Kortastipidkor Polri and Polda Metro Jaya, so that they will not be afraid to expose to the very root those who steal the people’s money and hoard dollars and gold,” he declared whilst speaking in front of Polda Metro Jaya on Friday, 10 July 2026.

They also voiced their support for the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to remain on the side of the people. The protesters also firmly rejected any military interference in the law enforcement process.

“Therefore, there must be no intervention from any party that would obstruct the investigation being carried out by the National Police,” said Amri.

Specifically, the protesters also demanded the involvement of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in providing assistance with handling the corruption case.

“So for the firm steps taken by the police officers, Kortastipidkor, who are currently handling this case, I give them a thumbs up and I salute them,” said Amri.

The protest proceeded in an orderly and peaceful manner under police escort. The protesters threatened to stage a larger demonstration if their demands for a thorough investigation into this suspected corruption case, which has caused suffering to the people, are not promptly followed up. As of the time of writing, there has been no official statement from the relevant parties in response to the protesters’ demands.
