Police Announce Suspect in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus, Allegedly Different from TNI's Version

Jakarta, Kompas.com - Metro Jaya Regional Police announced the suspect in the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus on Thursday (12/3/2026). In a press conference held on Wednesday (18/3/2026), the police not only revealed the identity but also the face of the alleged perpetrator. The police stated that there were a total of four perpetrators in the acid attack. At the same time, the TNI held a press conference on the same case. Although the number of suspects revealed by the TNI was also four, their identities are suspected to differ from those announced by the police. Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that based on the investigation results, the four acid attack perpetrators were seen in CCTV footage riding together on two motorcycles. Two executors were identified by the initials BHC and MAK, who are currently still being sought by the police. Meanwhile, the two perpetrators who drove the other motorcycles were not mentioned. “Polri data, the perpetrators are initials BHC and MAK,” said Iman during the press conference. Meanwhile, the two other perpetrators passed through the Matraman Underpass heading towards Jatinegara. The police also displayed the faces of the two acid attack executors captured by CCTV cameras along the road travelled by the perpetrators. Iman emphasised that the photos shown are original captures without further processing. “This is in no way altered or processed, so we can be accountable that this is not the result of Artificial Intelligence (AI),” Iman stressed. According to the police, the perpetrators had been tailing Andrie since he was at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Menteng, Central Jakarta. One of the perpetrators who was monitoring the victim’s movements once gave a signal to the two executors to start following Andrie. “It is also depicted there that after being signalled that the victim had left, they were then followed by one motorcycle ridden by two people whom we suspect as the executors,” Iman explained. In one CCTV recording on Jalan Diponegoro, the perpetrator is seen pulling over the motorcycle to the side of the road. One perpetrator wearing a red T-shirt is seen with his partner washing their bodies using flowing water.
