Police and Firefighters Spray Bogor Roads to Mitigate Anak Krakatau Ash Impact
The Bogor Regency Government (Pemkab) and Bogor Police carried out spraying on main routes to reduce the impact of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Bogor Regency. The spraying was conducted by firefighting teams and police using Armored Water Cannon (AWC) tactical vehicles.
“Today we all feel the presence of dust from Mount Anak Krakatau in Bogor Regency. We are concerned that the air is polluted, therefore we from the Bogor Regency Fire Department have deployed water spray vehicles across the entire region, especially on roads in towns and sub-districts throughout Bogor Regency,” said Head of the Bogor Regency Fire Department Yudi Santosa on Sunday (6/9/2026).
Yudi stated that the spraying was carried out by every fire department sector office in Bogor Regency. The spraying is conducted periodically on main roads heavily used by residents.
“We are working to reduce the effects of air pollution caused by the volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau in Bogor Regency. Hopefully this will at least help the community mitigate the effects of the volcanic ash,” said Yudi.
Spraying was also carried out by Bogor Police using an Armored Water Cannon (AWC) tactical vehicle with a water capacity of 6,000 litres. The spraying is expected to reduce the spread of volcanic ash.
“This road cleaning operation is focused along the main traffic arteries, stretching from Jalan Raya Jakarta-Bogor to the Sentul Alternative Route. The deployment of the AWC tactical vehicle, which is generally intended for crowd control, has been specifically repurposed for a public safety mission,” said Bogor Police Chief AKBP Wikha Ardilestanto.
Wikha expressed hope that driver visibility would soon return to normal and air quality on arterial roads would gradually recover. The spraying is considered effective in helping to clear volcanic dust deposits from asphalt surfaces.
“High-pressure water jets from the AWC fleet have proven effective in rinsing volcanic ash deposits from asphalt surfaces, preventing dust from continuing to fly about when run over by vehicle wheels, and reducing the risk of respiratory irritation for nearby residents,” said Wikha.
“We continue to urge the public to always wear personal protective equipment when outdoors, and to be more careful and reduce speed when driving given the wet asphalt conditions after spraying,” he added.
