Jakarta (ANTARA) — The National Police (Polri) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) are working together to safeguard the digital space.

The cooperation was discussed at a meeting between National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto and Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid at the Rupatama Building at National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Suyudi said that technology was advancing very rapidly and that the digital era required a timely and effective response.

He said Polri and Kemkomdigi were committed to swiftly tackling cybercrime that was troubling the public.

“Public concerns include crimes such as online fraud, online gambling and romance scams, among others. We must act swiftly to ensure national security,” he said.

He added that the two sides were also committed to strengthening efforts to address the spread of misinformation and hoaxes.

“This also requires strong regulatory measures. The Minister raised this earlier, and hopefully we can strengthen our efforts in this area going forward,” he said.

The National Police chief said he hoped cooperation between Polri and Kemkomdigi would meet the public’s expectations for digital security in Indonesia.

Meutya said various forms of cybercrime were currently widespread, including data trading, online scams, online gambling, pornography, cyberbullying, misinformation and hoaxes.

She said Kemkomdigi could not handle these cases alone and needed strong cooperation with law enforcement, including Polri.

“Collaboration with Polri is crucial to combining preventive measures with enforcement,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation for Polri’s decisive action in uncovering a cross-border online gambling case and prosecuting those responsible for stealing digital infrastructure, such as base transceiver station (BTS) equipment.

“We are ready to collaborate and coordinate more intensively with Polri, particularly under the leadership of National Police Chief Suyudi,” she said.
