Police Analyse 86 CCTV Points to Investigate Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
Police are tracing CCTV footage in the case of an acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS. A total of 86 surveillance camera points have been analysed by officers.
“There are 86 surveillance camera points that we have obtained in relation to points where the alleged perpetrators of this acid attack are suspected to have departed from and returned to,” said Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Head of Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metro Police, on Monday (16 March 2026).
Seven CCTV cameras were obtained from the electronic traffic enforcement system. A further 27 points were obtained from the Communications and Information Service, and 8 points from the Transportation Service.
“Then there are 44 CCTV points from residents, that is from residential homes, offices and buildings in the vicinity of the route used by the perpetrators,” he explained.
The 86 CCTV points were analysed. There are 2,610 images in video form with a total duration of 10,320 minutes that were analysed by investigators.
“Therefore we need quite a few days to conduct a digital analysis of the CCTV video recordings along the entire route traversed by the perpetrators,” he said.
Perpetrators Tracked the Victim
Previously, Jakarta Metro Police revealed new findings regarding the investigation into the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus. Police stated that there are four suspected perpetrators in this case, and the perpetrators had been monitoring Andrie Yunus’s movements before carrying out the attack.
“Based on the analysis of CCTV recordings from several points in the Jakarta area, the suspected perpetrators are believed to have been tracking the victim’s movements from before the incident, with the movements of the suspected perpetrators detected through several surveillance camera points,” said Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Head of Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metro Police, during a press conference at Metro Police headquarters.
The perpetrators’ movements were detected from South Jakarta to the scene of the incident. Imanuddin stated that the suspected perpetrators had circled Medan Merdeka Raya Street, Ir H Juanda Street, the Tugu Tani area, and the YLBHI building, which is also in Central Jakarta. At that time, Andrie Yunus was at YLBHI. After Andrie finished attending the YLBHI event, the perpetrators resumed following him.
Andrie was sprayed with acid in the Salemba area of Central Jakarta on Thursday (12 March) evening. He suffered burns in several parts of his body and is currently undergoing intensive care.
