Police: Air Gun Seller Had Weapon Modification Skills, Earned Up to Rp200 Million

The Tanjung Priok Port Police have stated that the suspect, identified by the initials WF alias B, who was involved in the trade of air guns, possessed the skills to modify weapons and had been selling them since 2023. “The suspect purchased these weapons from outside the region online and resold them at prices ranging from Rp2 million to Rp5 million per unit. The suspect admitted to making a profit of between Rp100 million and Rp200 million since 2023,” said Tanjung Priok Port Police Chief AKBP Aris Wibowo in Jakarta on Thursday. He emphasised that these air guns are extremely dangerous and have a strong projectile force. If modified, the weapons could cause death to a target. Aris stated that the suspect also did not have a licence to trade air guns. Officers are continuing to investigate the case to uncover the individual who supplied the weapons to the suspect. “We are still investigating, and indeed, the suspect is a man of few words,” he said. Previously, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjung Priok Port Police arrested a man with the initials MF alias B suspected of illegally trading air guns on Jalan Pandjaitan, Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta. From the operation, police seized 22 air guns as evidence from the suspect. One weapon was found with the suspect during the arrest, and 21 other various types of air guns were discovered at the suspect’s rented accommodation in the Jati Cempaka area of Pondok Gede, Bekasi. In addition to the 21 air guns, officers found 68 packs of pellets, 26 magazines, three boxes of CO2 canisters, two gas cylinder mounts, 13 sets of pellet casings, two airsoft gun gas cylinders, 11 slide parts, needle-nose pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, and an air gun valve key. The suspect is charged under Article 306 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which regulates firearms, ammunition, explosive materials, and other weapons.
