Police Affirm Handling of Printing Staff Confinement Case Follows Procedure
Three printing company employees in the Senen area of Central Jakarta, named Adit Saputra, M Rafly Jaelani, and Tegar Saputra, were confined for 21 days. Polda Metro Jaya has confirmed that the handling of the alleged case is proceeding according to legal procedure.
Polda Metro Jaya’s Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the case is being handled professionally, proportionally, transparently, and accountably. “This activity is carried out to provide information to the public regarding the handling of the case by the Central Jakarta Metro Police with support from the Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate,” Budi said in a statement on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
Senior Commissioner Budi explained that the case originated from a public report via the 110 call centre. The report was then followed up by the Central Jakarta Metro Police until officers found the victims who were allegedly being confined. Budi clarified that the police are not accusing the three victims of theft. The allegations regarding the loss of items at the printing company, as conveyed by the suspects, still need to be proven through the investigation process.
“We are not stating or accusing these three victims of committing theft. Investigators will look into whether it is true or not. Why was it not reported to the police, why did they instead carry out confinement and deprivation of someone’s liberty, then demand money from the family,” he stressed. Furthermore, Senior Commissioner Budi mentioned that the motive for the case is still being investigated. He emphasised that the suspects’ initial statements do not immediately become a conclusion, but must be tested based on facts and evidence.
“We convey that this case process is professional, proportional, accountable, and can be justified. We hope that information regarding this case does not become biased or misleading,” Budi said. The Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations invited the public and media to objectively oversee the case handling process. He also urged the public to use the 110 service if they know of or experience incidents requiring police presence. “The handling of this case is part of the National Police’s commitment to providing protection, service, and legal certainty to the public. The National Police is present as a guardian of life, a builder of civilisation, and a fighter for humanity,” he concluded.
Seven people have been arrested, including the owner of the printing company. The suspects who have been named are men with the initials MML (40), AI (41), S (48), AYL (29), and NHJ (42), as well as two women with the initials CML (37) and II (36). Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, said the suspects accused the victims of embezzling printing plates worth hundreds of millions of rupiah. The three victims were asked for compensation money amounting to Rp 50 million per person.
“The suspects, who have now been named, extorted the three victims by confining them, even committing several acts of abuse, up to shackling or binding their feet with equipment so they could not go anywhere or move from the place,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung on Monday (29/6/2026). The seven suspects are currently detained at the Central Jakarta Metro Police Detention Centre. They are charged under Article 482 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison and/or Article 446 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison and/or Article 471 of the Criminal Code with a maximum penalty of 6 months in prison.
