JAKARTA — Police say they have admonished seven people involved in a car convoy with zig-zag maneuvers on the Bekasi–Cawang–Kampung Melayu Toll Road (Becakayu).

“We have issued oral warnings; those taking part in the zig-zag consisted of six people across five cars, while one person did not zig-zag but filmed,” said AKBP Reiki, Head of the Traffic Patrol Unit (Kasat PJR) of the Metro Jaya Police’s Directorate of Traffic (Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya), when contacted on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

Reiki emphasised that all involved had also apologised for driving erratically.

“The individual has issued a statement of apology for driving in an erratic manner,” he said.

He confirmed all drivers were adults and possessed the necessary documents, such as a driver’s licence (SIM) and vehicle registration (STNK).

“Most are around 25 years old and already have a SIM,” he added.

“We, as the drivers who went viral on social media, zig-zagged on the Becakayu Toll Road on 1 March 2026 at 04:00 WIB,” one of the drivers said in a video received by Kompas.com.

“We apologise for the disturbance we caused and we also apologise to the relevant parties, Mr Heri as Head of Becakayu Toll Road and Mr Atisullah on behalf of the police,” he continued.

He admitted the act was done for social media content.

“What we did cannot be justified and the actions we took were only for content. This is the apology we offer. Thank you,” he said.

Earlier, police had confirmed they would not fine a number of motorists who took part in the zig-zag convoy on the Becakayu Toll Road.

Although the act was deemed potentially dangerous to other road users, police chose an educational approach for the drivers involved.

AKBP Reiki said officers would issue an oral warning if they could locate the drivers who performed the manoeuvre.

“If possible, we will issue an oral warning so as not to perform maneuvers that could disrupt other drivers who may be overtaking,” Reiki told Kompas.com on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
