Police Academy Strengthens Scientific Policing with New Laboratory

The Police Academy (Akpol) is strengthening scientific policing through a new Police Social Science Laboratory and Thematic Classrooms inaugurated on Monday. Quoted from an official statement, the inauguration was carried out by Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo at Akpol in Semarang, Central Java. Dedi explained that the Police Social Science Laboratory and Thematic Classrooms are part of police education reform. The laboratory, he continued, serves as a simulation-based learning space for various real-world societal issues, supported by artificial intelligence (AI), coding, and big data analysis. Cadets are trained to understand social dynamics, map potential disruptions to security and public order, and formulate evidence-based solutions. “Cadets must be equipped with data-based decision-making abilities. Therefore, we are developing learning that utilises big data, AI, and comprehensive analysis so that every decision can be scientifically and legally accounted for,” he said. He stated that as part of strengthening learning, the Central Java Regional Police have been designated as a Teaching Laboratory for Akpol. Thus, cadets gain direct experience analysing the dynamics of public security and order through a humanist approach before carrying out duties in the field. Meanwhile, the thematic classrooms were developed as learning spaces based on actual case studies that introduce police functions visually, interactively, and applicatively. Currently, six thematic classrooms are available, namely Human Resources, Medical and Health, Mobile Brigade, Criminal Investigation, Identification, and Forensic Laboratory. Going forward, he said, all technical police functions are targeted to have thematic classrooms as integrated learning media. The construction of the Police Social Science Laboratory and Thematic Classrooms was supported through grant funds from the Himbara Bank group and contributions from police alumni. The Deputy Chief of Police expressed appreciation to all parties who contributed to realising the facility. “This synergy is an important investment in building superior police human resources ready to face future challenges,” he said.
