Police Academy Cadet in Semarang Dies After Allegedly Falling from Third Floor
Police are still investigating the death of Police Academy Cadet (Cabhatar) Attar Mahattar Makkawang, 19, at the Semarang Police Academy (Akpol). He was found dead following an apparent fall from the third floor of the Hoegeng Building.
Following an investigation of the crime scene, police investigators have questioned several witnesses, including the cadet’s peers who discovered the victim with injuries. The victim was rushed to the Semarang Akpol Hospital for medical treatment but was ultimately pronounced dead.
According to police reports, the incident was reported at approximately 7:45 PM WIB on Thursday (30/7). Earlier that afternoon, 340 cadets had participated in operational drum demonstrations. Following the activity, participants returned to the Hoegeng Building to clean up, pray, eat dinner, and attend a roll call in preparation for integrated training in Magelang.
During the initial roll call after dinner, all cadets were accounted for. However, during a subsequent check at approximately 7:00 PM, instructors noticed one cadet was missing from the formation, prompting a search around the Hoegeng Building where they had last gathered.
Witnesses stated that around 7:45 PM, screams were heard coming from the direction of the building. The victim, Attar Mahattar Makkawang, was reportedly seen on a boundary wall on the third floor where he lost his balance. Although he briefly managed to climb back onto the ledge, he ultimately fell.
“The victim was immediately evacuated to Bhayangkara Hospital for medical handling, but could not be saved and was declared dead,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Central Java Regional Police, Kombes Yuliyanto.
The victim’s family has accepted the incident as an accident. However, the police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the cadet’s death. Investigators are currently examining witnesses and gathering statements from peers who found the victim or had interacted with him prior to the incident.
