The Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division, via the NCB Interpol Indonesia Secretariat, has stated that foreign national Abdul Karim Raeq Miqdad was deported from Indonesia because he was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice from Nicosia. “The individual concerned is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice from NCB Interpol Nicosia. He is not an activist, but a perpetrator of criminal acts of terrorism,” said NCB Interpol Indonesia Secretary Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko to journalists in Jakarta on Monday. The statement was made in response to social media posts claiming the Indonesian Government had arrested Palestinian activist Abdul Karim and deported him to the Republic of Cyprus a day later. Untung explained that Abdul Karim was arrested in Indonesia on Thursday (16/7) and deported to Cyprus on Friday (17/7). He noted that the swift deportation process is a standard procedure. “There is nothing wrong with the deportation. In fact, usually once arrested, the subject is deported immediately,” he said. He stressed that his team worked in accordance with procedures and mechanisms. “Moreover, claims that he would be transferred to another country besides Cyprus are completely untrue,” Untung asserted. He also revealed that Abdul Karim held one Palestinian passport and two European passports, from Cyprus and Norway. However, upon investigation, the two European passports were found to be counterfeit and listed in the Stolen and Lost Travel Document (SLTD) database. “They likely originated from theft,” he added. The Indonesian Government had previously arrested Palestinian activist Abdul Karim Raeq Miqdad based on an Interpol Red Notice and deported him to Cyprus the day after his arrest.
