Police: 69 Detained During Hotel Sultan Riot Are Not Employees
Polda Metro Jaya has stated that the 69 people detained during the execution of a court order at Hotel Sultan in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Central Jakarta, are not employees of the hotel. Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the dozens of individuals detained were a mobilised crowd attempting to obstruct the execution process. “For now, the 69 people detained are not employees of the former Hotel Sultan. They are a crowd that was mobilised to try to hinder the asset seizure process at this location,” Budi said at Hotel Sultan on Thursday (18/6). He mentioned the number of detained individuals could increase.
Budi said that during the execution process, there were around 500 people occupying Hotel Sultan and refusing to allow the execution to proceed. “We saw earlier that there were more or less 500 people occupying the property to be executed, and this will certainly be investigated further regarding attempts to obstruct and resist officers carrying out their duties,” he said.
The situation has since been brought under control, and the executor from the Central Jakarta District Court has entered the Hotel Sultan area accompanied by security personnel. Polda Metro Jaya reported that at least 29 people were injured during the land execution process for Hotel Sultan. The majority of those injured were officers deployed to secure the execution. “There are 29 injured officers here, consisting of 26 police officers who sustained minor injuries from stones thrown by the crowd occupying the execution area, one TNI member injured on the temple, and two civilians who were present during the execution,” Budi told reporters. He explained that the injured victims have now received medical treatment.
Chandra M. Hamzah, legal counsel for the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK), stated that the process of vacating the hotel is ongoing. “Today, 18 June 2026, the Central Jakarta District Court has carried out a real execution, the eviction, in connection with the court’s ruling on the area known as Block 15, the former Hotel Sultan,” Chandra told reporters. A total of 3,161 joint personnel from the TNI, Polri, and local government were deployed to provide escort and security for the execution process. The process was temporarily marred by rioting, with the resisting crowd throwing objects at the executors and the line of officers. However, the resistance was successfully quelled. To date, a total of 69 people have been detained by the police as a result of the unrest.
