Jakarta (ANTARA) - Polestar has promised to launch four new fully electric models by 2028, a commitment that will require the manufacturer's engineers to work exceptionally hard.

CarsCoops reported on Friday that the engineers have been tasked with delivering vehicles capable of matching the reliability of German premium marques.

"We want to focus more on the performance side, because that is where we can do better going forward on the racetrack and in terms of acceleration, so we can become superior to other brands," said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller.

To compete with BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, and even Audi in the sports vehicle segment, the company has planned something major through the introduction of the Polestar 5.

The Polestar 5 grand tourer, in its Performance version, already boasts 872 hp (650 kW / 884 PS), meaning an even more powerful variant could rival cars such as the Audi RS e-Tron GT, Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.

The company also harbours grand ambitions to revive its BST — or "beast" — sub-brand. The vehicle line is predicted to evolve from the limited-production experiment with the Polestar 2 BST Edition into a full high-performance sub-brand.

Other candidates for future BST variants include the next-generation Polestar 2 sedan, the recently updated Polestar 3 SUV, and the Polestar 4 crossover coupe, which is set to receive a station wagon body style.
