Polda Metro Unfazed by Roy Suryo's Second Pre-Trial Motion: We Are Ready to Attend

Roy Suryo has filed another pre-trial motion, this time concerning his suspect status in the defamation case involving the academic credentials of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). The Jakarta Metropolitan Police are prepared to face the motion. “We are ready to attend to serve the application,” said the Head of Legal Affairs for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Abrianto Pardede, when asked for confirmation on Saturday (4/7/2026). Senior Commissioner Abrianto stated that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have no issue with the filing of this pre-trial motion. He said every person has the right to file a pre-trial motion. “It is fine, as we know a pre-trial motion is the right of a person who feels their rights have been violated or harmed by the arbitrary actions of law enforcement officers,” he said. He noted that the pre-trial motion letter regarding Roy’s suspect status has not yet been received. However, he affirmed that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police are ready to face it. “We will see once the pre-trial motion letter has arrived at the address. Well, the Legal Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police is always ready to serve the pre-trial process,” he said. For the record, Roy’s pre-trial motion regarding the determination of his suspect status is registered under case number 108/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL. Roy registered it on Thursday (2/7) at the South Jakarta District Court. “Case classification: the legality of the implementation of the forced measure of suspect determination,” as stated on the South Jakarta District Court’s Case Tracking Information System page. The petition points for Roy’s application in this pre-trial motion have not yet been displayed on the South Jakarta District Court’s SIPP page. The first hearing will be held on Friday (10/7). “Agenda: reading of the application,” the SIPP page stated. For information, Roy has also filed a pre-trial motion regarding the legality of the implementation of a search. This motion was filed by Roy on Monday (22/6) with case registration number 99/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL. This motion is also being adjudicated by sole judge I Ketut Darpawan. The first respondent is the Government of the Republic of Indonesia cq the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief cq the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police cq the Head of the State Security Sub-Directorate cq the investigation team, while the second respondent is the Government of the Republic of Indonesia cq the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia cq the Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes at the Attorney General’s Office cq the Head of the High Prosecutor’s Office for Jakarta. The trial process for this pre-trial motion has now reached the conclusion stage. The judge will read the verdict for this pre-trial motion on Tuesday (7/7).
