Polda Metro Uncovers Human Trafficking Ring to Libya, Two Named as Suspects

Polda Metro Jaya has uncovered a human trafficking operation sending victims to Libya. The perpetrators promised the victims they would be sent to Turkey. “The victims were promised work as domestic helpers in Turkey with an income of around Rp 7 million per month. However, they were instead placed in Libya through non-procedural means,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Friday (24/7/2026). In Libya, the victims suffered exploitation, including not being paid wages, violence, threats, excessively long working hours, and passport confiscation. “The victims experienced exploitation such as not receiving wages, violence, threats, passport confiscation, restrictions on freedom, and excessively long working hours without rest,” he explained. Investigators have named two individuals as suspects in the human trafficking case. Both have been detained at the Polda Metro Jaya detention centre. “We have named two suspects who are now detained and undergoing detention at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Centre,” he stated. Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya’s Director of General Criminal Investigation, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that the suspects gave money to the prospective victims to persuade them to depart. “To attract the victims’ interest, the suspects also provided an initial fee to the families of Rp 2.5 million to Rp 3 million,” he said. The two suspects are identified as R and DY. They had different roles in carrying out the human trafficking operation. “The first suspect, R alias Ica, had the role of instructing suspect DY to find victims and also provided financing for the victims. The second suspect, DY, actively sought out victims to be sent abroad,” he stated.
