Polda Metro patrol officer dies while assisting motorist on Joglo Toll Road

A member of the Highway Patrol Unit (Sat PJR) of the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate, Aipda Endang Karyana, died in the line of duty following a traffic accident on the Joglo Toll Road heading towards Pondok Pinang, Jakarta, on Friday (3/7).

Head of the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate’s PJR Unit, AKBP Rieki Indra Brata Manggala, confirmed the incident in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday. “The victim was pronounced dead by the medical team at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital on Friday afternoon at 15.11 WIB due to the severe injuries he sustained,” he said.

Rieki explained that the tragic event occurred on Friday (3/7) morning at around 10.50 WIB. The incident began when Aipda Endang was providing assistance to the driver of a light truck with registration number AD 8974 WW, which had suffered a technical fault in the middle of the toll road.

“However, suddenly, from the direction of Tangerang, an Isuzu Wing Box truck with police number B 9663 TXW was speeding along. The truck struck the rear tyre of the light truck that the victim was attending to,” said Rieki. The violent impact caused the light truck to be forcefully shunted to the left, directly hitting Aipda Endang Karyana. As a result of the collision, the victim suffered severe injuries, particularly to his right leg.

Officers at the scene immediately evacuated the victim to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta for emergency medical treatment. However, after several hours of intensive care, the life of the police officer, who was born in Garut in 1978, could not be saved.

Meanwhile, the Head of Traffic for the West Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Reza Hafiz Gumilang, stated that the truck driver, identified by the initials YN (47), has been detained. “The truck driver is detained because he was drowsy, causing him to hit the truck that had broken down,” he said.
