Polda Metro: Legal Process Against Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa Targets Actions, Not Individuals

Polda Metro Jaya has stated that the arrest of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa in relation to the case of alleged fake diplomas of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), does not target the individuals personally, but rather the suspected criminal acts they are implicated in.

“This law enforcement is not aimed at the person or their views, but at the actions suspected of violating criminal provisions,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, during a press conference on Friday (19/6/2026).

Budi also assured that the case is being handled professionally. He said investigators uphold the principle of presumption of innocence in every case they manage.

“This case is also being handled professionally, proportionally, and measurably. We also underline that an arrest is not a verdict; an arrest is part of a legitimate legal process,” he stated.

“And every person with suspect status is protected by the presumption of innocence until there is a court ruling that has permanent legal force,” he added.

Previously, Budi stated that the arrests of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa are a continuation of the case handling process, which has been declared complete (P-21) by the prosecutor’s office.

“As an affirmation, this arrest is not a standalone action, but a continuation of an ongoing process, where the case file has been declared complete (P-21) by the prosecutor’s office,” he explained.

Budi also revealed that Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were arrested by investigators from the State Security Sub-Directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya.
