Polda Metro Jaya Urges Residents to Revitalise Neighbourhood Watches to Anticipate 3C Crimes

The General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of Polda Metro Jaya has urged residents across the capital and surrounding areas to revive night patrols and strengthen the community security system (siskamling) to anticipate violent theft, aggravated theft, and motor vehicle theft, collectively known as 3C crimes. Polda Metro Jaya Deputy Director of General Criminal Investigation AKBP Danang Setiyo Pambudi Sukarno stated that active public participation is crucial, as the majority of these conventional crimes occur during resting hours. ‘From our evaluation, 3C crimes generally take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., when public activity is low and environmental supervision decreases,’ he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday. In addition to siskamling, he asked residents to ensure their homes are securely locked when left unattended, to fit motor vehicles with double locks or additional security devices such as GPS trackers, and not to leave valuables inside vehicles. He also urged the public to immediately report any suspicious activity via the 110 emergency line and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands against apprehended suspects. ‘Security is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement; it is our collective responsibility. Do not hesitate to report, and entrust the entire legal process to the police,’ he said. Previously, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, together with the Criminal Investigation Units, uncovered 2,216 cases of violent theft, aggravated theft, and motor vehicle theft during the first semester of 2026, covering the period from January to June. From these disclosures, at least 2,054 individuals have been named as suspects, comprising 260 cases of violent theft, 2,460 cases of aggravated theft, and 1,716 cases of motor vehicle theft.
