Polda Metro Jaya Urges All Parties to Respect Legal Process in Roy Suryo Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Polda Metro Jaya has invited all elements of society to respect the legal process, which is proceeding independently, regarding the second-stage transfer of a suspected defamation case involving Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma (doctor Tifa).
“Let us together respect this legal process, which is running independently. This legal process is not proceeding on its own, but has gone through a long constitutional series,” said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in Jakarta on Monday.
He explained that the transfer of the suspects and evidence to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office was carried out after the case file was declared complete (P21) by the prosecution. He stressed that the entire series, from the public report to the coercive measures, constitutes the fulfilment of lawful and accountable procedures.
Meanwhile, Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, urged the public, including prominent figures, to provide good legal education to the community rather than building narratives on social media. “I invite all elements to jointly educate the public on how to engage with the law correctly and properly, according to the norms regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), not through narratives on social media, not through untrue provocative narratives,” said Iman.
He also emphasised that the Indonesian judicial system provides legal avenues for parties who object to the investigation process, namely through pre-trial motions or internal police supervisory bodies, rather than by intervening in public opinion. “We remain guided by the Criminal Procedure Code. If there are matters deemed inappropriate, there is a mechanism called pre-trial. There are also internal supervisors. All these channels can be used,” Iman stated.
Previously, Roy Suryo’s legal counsel, Ahmad Khozinudin, requested that the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office act professionally and not detain his client during the second-stage transfer process. “As long as law enforcement can be carried out without detention, then detention becomes unnecessary,” Khozinudin said at Polda Metro Jaya on Monday.
He accompanied Roy Suryo, who was transferred from the Kramat Jati Police Hospital to Polda Metro Jaya to complete administrative processes before being handed over to the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office along with the case evidence. He considered the administrative process at the police investigation level to be excessive and argued that investigators had other legal options besides arrest or detention. “One of them is through a formal summons mechanism as regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP),” said Khozinudin.
