Polda Metro Jaya to Deploy 'Hunting System' Targeting Covered Licence Plates

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of Polda Metro Jaya is preparing to reactivate its mobile enforcement system (“hunting system”) against drivers who deliberately cover or alter vehicle registration plates (TNKB) using tape or stickers.

“Going forward, we will certainly reactivate the hunting system for certain violations, including TNKB-related ones,” said the Director of Traffic at Polda Metro Jaya, Brigadier General Pol Komarudin, when contacted in Jakarta on Friday.

He stressed that enforcement measures need to be stepped up given the prevalence of street crimes using similar methods, namely deliberately altering, covering, or even removing vehicle number plates when committing criminal acts.

“At present, the police are still issuing appeals and sanctions in the form of warnings so that violators promptly restore their vehicle number plates to a condition that complies with applicable law,” said Komarudin.

According to Komarudin, public compliance behind the wheel is the primary factor in creating order, smooth traffic flow, and safety for oneself as well as other road users.

“Drivers need not fear being caught by ETLE or receiving a traffic ticket as long as they obey traffic rules — such compliance is also the main factor in creating smooth and safe conditions for themselves and others on the road,” Komarudin explained.

Previously, a video circulated on the Instagram account @kudaliarock showing vehicle owners deliberately sticking tape or stickers over the letters or numbers on their number plates, strongly suspected to be an attempt to deceive and avoid detection by ETLE cameras on public roads.
