Polda Metro Jaya to Deploy 'Hunting System' Targeting Covered Licence Plates

The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of Polda Metro Jaya is preparing to re-empower a mobile enforcement system, known as a ‘hunting system’, to target motorists who deliberately cover or alter their Vehicle Registration Plates (TNKB) using tape or stickers. ‘In the future, we will certainly re-empower the hunting system for certain violations, including those related to TNKB,’ said the Director of Traffic for Polda Metro Jaya, Brigadier General Pol Komarudin, when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. He stressed that enforcement measures need to be intensified given the prevalence of street crimes that use similar methods, namely deliberately altering, covering, or even removing licence plates when committing offences. Currently, the police are still issuing appeals and sanctions in the form of warnings so that violators immediately restore their licence plates to comply with applicable legal provisions. Komarudin stated that public compliance in driving is the main factor in creating order, smooth traffic flow, and safety for both the individual and other road users. ‘Motorists do not need to be afraid of being caught by the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) system or being ticketed as long as they obey traffic regulations. Compliance is the main factor in creating smoothness and safety for themselves and others on the road,’ Komarudin said. The statement follows the circulation of a video on the Instagram account @kudaliarock showing vehicle owners deliberately sticking tape or stickers on the letters and numbers of their licence plates, allegedly to deceive and avoid being recorded by ETLE cameras on the highway.
