Polda Metro Jaya Responds After South Jakarta Court Rejects Roy Suryo's Pretrial Motion

Metro Jaya Regional Police have spoken out regarding the judges’ ruling rejecting the pre-trial motion filed by telematics expert Roy Suryo against his designation as a suspect.

The Head of the Legal Division at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Commissioner Abrianto Pardede, said the judges’ ruling serves as a basis for all parties to respect and carry out the ongoing legal process.

“We respect the judges’ ruling which firmly rejected Roy Suryo’s second pre-trial motion. In their considerations, the judges stated that the material submitted is no longer relevant,” Abrianto told reporters on Monday (20/7).

According to Abrianto, in the ruling the judges also assessed that the pre-trial motion filed by the applicant was no longer relevant as it was deemed an attempt to delay the examination of the merits of the case.

“The judges considered that the motion was seen as a delaying tactic. Therefore, the judges’ ruling must be respected and implemented in accordance with the law,” he said.

Nevertheless, Abrianto stressed that pre-trial motions are a legal right of every citizen.

In his view, any party who feels aggrieved in a legal process has the right to pursue a pre-trial mechanism in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.

“A pre-trial motion is the right of anyone who feels legally aggrieved. It may be filed through the applicable mechanism. However, in this case, the judges have ruled that the motion is no longer relevant,” he said.

Abrianto stated that following the second pre-trial ruling, the examination of the merits of the case will proceed according to the court schedule. He said Metro Jaya Regional Police will ensure they follow all applicable legal stages.

“The main case will continue. We will attend and follow the court proceedings in accordance with the law,” he said.

Furthermore, Abrianto noted that if further pre-trial motions are filed in the future, Metro Jaya Regional Police remain ready to face the process professionally.

“Even if there is another pre-trial motion, we will still attend to face it. In principle, we respect the entire legal process,” he said.

Previously, the sole judge of the South Jakarta District Court rejected Roy Suryo’s pre-trial motion concerning the validity of his designation as a suspect by Metro Jaya Regional Police.

“Rejecting the applicant’s pre-trial motion in its entirety,” the judge said at the hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday afternoon.
