Polda Metro Jaya recorded 5,436 cases of motor vehicle theft, violent theft, and aggravated theft during the period from January to June 2026, resulting in the arrest of 2,054 suspects. The data was released by Wadirkrimum Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Danang Setiyo during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Of the total reports, 260 were cases of violent theft, 2,460 were aggravated theft, and 1,716 were motor vehicle theft. The evaluation indicated that these crimes predominantly occurred between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., when public activity decreases and environmental surveillance is reduced. The highest number of violent theft reports came from West Jakarta with 61 cases, followed by North Jakarta with 31, and South Tangerang with 27. For aggravated theft, Tangerang City recorded the highest with 1,923 reports, followed by South Tangerang with 879, and West Jakarta with 629. Motor vehicle theft was highest in Tangerang City with 695 reports, South Tangerang with 196, and South Jakarta with 174. From the total reports, 2,216 cases were solved, leading to the arrest of 2,054 suspects who have been detained and some transferred to the prosecutor’s office. Evidence seized includes Rp 2.076 billion in cash, 14 firearms, 41 sharp weapons, 1,825 motorcycles, 22 cars, 296 mobile phones, 10 laptops, 95 rounds of ammunition, 110 letter-T or letter-Y keys, 4 airsoft guns, and 866.98 grams of gold. The suspects face charges under various articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 477 for theft with a maximum penalty of 10 years, Article 479 for violent theft with a maximum of 9 years, and Articles 306 and 307 for firearms and explosives offences with penalties of 10 to 20 years. Polda Metro Jaya has intensified patrols during vulnerable hours and is optimising preventive and pre-emptive measures in high-risk areas.
