Polda Metro Jaya Names Hanania Travel Boss as Suspect in Umrah Fraud Case
Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has named Ahmad Syah Farhan, also known as ASF, the boss of Hanania Travel, as a suspect in a case involving alleged fraud and embezzlement of umrah travel funds. Farhan, who is the President Director of PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional, has now been formally detained.
“ASF was named as a suspect on 29 May 2026. Subsequently, he has been detained at the Polda Metro Jaya Directorate of Detention and Evidence,” said Polda Metro Jaya’s Head of Public Relations, Commissioner General Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Saturday (30 May 2026).
Budi Hermanto stated that the designation of Ahmad Syah Farhan as a suspect was made through a case review meeting. Following the investigation, Farhan was named as a suspect and is currently detained at Polda Metro Jaya’s detention facility.
In this case, Polda Metro Jaya received two police reports involving approximately 128 victims, with estimated total losses of Rp12.14 billion.
“Regarding the report filed by JSP, the case has moved to the investigation stage. Investigators have examined 33 witnesses from both complainants and registered victims,” said Budi.
The charges against Ahmad Syah Farhan include alleged fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering under Article 492 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (KUHP), Article 486 of the KUHP, and Article 607 of the KUHP.
He added that investigators are currently finalising the case dossier, including witness statements, suspect testimonies, and other supporting evidence. Additionally, they are exploring the possibility of other parties allegedly involved in the case.
Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya has established a Victim Complaint Post for alleged fraud by PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional/Hanania Group’s umrah agency. Victims can visit the State Security Sub-Directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate at Polda Metro Jaya with supporting documents and evidence, or contact via WhatsApp at 0813-1400-141.
“The complaint post operates from 9:00 to 17:00 WIB,” he added.
Previously, Ahmad Syah Farhan was escorted to the Polda Metro Jaya General Complaint Desk by his victims after allegedly absconding with umrah funds. One victim and representative, Joko, explained the reason for filing a police report, stating that victims noticed irregularities in the umrah departure process.
“Yes, we filed a police report against Mr. Ahmad Syah Farhan as the President Director of PT Hanania. His company is a professional travel agency. The pilgrims felt there were irregularities in the umrah departure process that should have already occurred,” Joko told reporters at Polda Metro Jaya on Thursday (28 May).
Joko said the victims had fully paid for their umrah trips. However, after mediation in South Jakarta, the victims agreed to bring the issue to Polda Metro Jaya for discussion and to file a police report.
“Most of the group had paid in full, but the process remained unclear. There was a mediation session at Hanania’s office in Kokas. Following the pilgrims’ agreement, we brought him here to discuss, find a solution, and file the report,” he added.
