Polda Metro Jaya Maps Out Four Protest Points in Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have mapped out four mass concentration points for a protest action held in Jakarta on Monday, namely the DPR/MPR RI building, the Bundaran HI - Dukuh Atas area, the Silang Monas area, and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) office.
To secure the expression of opinions, a total of 6,675 joint personnel have been placed on standby and deployed at the mapped strategic points.
“Polda Metro Jaya has prepared 6,675 joint personnel to secure the entire series of opinion expression activities. Personnel will be placed at strategic points to ensure the safety of protest participants and members of the public carrying out activities around the locations,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters in Jakarta on Monday.
Budi detailed that the joint personnel strength consists of 6,165 police officers, 500 TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) personnel, and 10 Transportation Agency officers. This tight security is implemented to ensure that the public’s aspirations are conveyed safely and orderly without disrupting public activities.
Based on the mapping by Polda Metro Jaya, the DPR/MPR RI building area is the point with the largest mass concentration. Police estimate the number of protest participants at this location will reach 300 to 400 people.
Meanwhile, the Bundaran HI - Dukuh Atas area will be the movement centre for masses from the Perisai Alliance, with an estimated number of participants ranging from 80 to 100 people.
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) building is the fourth mapped point. The protest in front of the BGN office is expected to be attended by 40 to 50 participants.
Budi emphasised that all deployed personnel have received direct instructions from the Jakarta Police Chief, Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri, to prioritise a humanistic and persuasive approach.
“Officers carrying out security duties must be patient, humanistic, and not provoked. The aspirations of our student colleagues must be conveyed safely and peacefully,” he said.
The police also stressed that officers are strictly prohibited from being provoked emotionally and are not allowed to carry or use firearms while escorting the demonstration.
Budi stated that the duty of the officers is not to obstruct citizens’ right to express their opinions, but to ensure that public facilities and general safety are maintained.
In addition to mass security, traffic officers have also been placed on standby around the four locations to anticipate and manage traffic congestion and density.
