Polda Metro Jaya Maps Disaster-Prone Areas, Boosts Preparedness

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Polda Metro Jaya is increasing its preparedness to face potential disasters by strengthening personnel, equipment, mapping vulnerable areas, and coordinating across agencies to accelerate emergency response. Deputy Chief of Polda Metro Jaya, Brigadier General Pol. Dekananto Eko Purwono, stated that disaster preparedness must begin with mapping potentially affected areas, such as regions prone to flooding, fire, drought, and clean water crises. “The success of disaster management is not only measured by the ability to respond to incidents, but also by efforts to prevent disasters and the speed of providing aid to the community,” Dekananto said during a personnel and equipment readiness assembly at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Monday. The Deputy Chief conveyed that the assembly was held to ensure the readiness of personnel, equipment, and coordination in facing various potential disasters within the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya. A total of 233 personnel participated in the assembly, consisting of 80 personnel from the Polda Metro Jaya Mobile Brigade Unit, 100 personnel from the Directorate of Samapta, 50 personnel from the Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud), and three personnel from the Medical and Health Division (Biddokkes). In addition to personnel, Polda Metro Jaya also inspected the readiness of various disaster management facilities and infrastructure, including Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) vehicles, Search and Rescue (SAR) vehicles, rubber boats, light fire extinguishers (APAR), ambulances, communication devices, and other supporting equipment to ensure they are ready for operation when needed. Dekananto said that mapping of vulnerable areas must be carried out together with all stakeholders, covering flood-prone areas, drought, clean water crises, fire hotspots, final disposal sites (TPA), and reserve water sources that can be utilised during emergencies. He also stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and synergy with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), local governments, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Fire and Rescue Service, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and other relevant agencies so that disaster management can be carried out quickly, precisely, and in an integrated manner. In addition to strengthening personnel and equipment readiness, the police force is also required to increase public education regarding water conservation and fire awareness. On the other hand, law enforcement against any negligence or actions that result in fires will also be carried out firmly. Dekananto added that all personnel must maintain readiness, ensure equipment is in good condition, and prioritise the safety of officers and the public in every disaster management task. “Therefore, solidarity, preparedness, and dedication of all personnel must continue to be strengthened,” he said.
