Polda Metro Jaya Investigates Sutrimo's Death, Opens Possibility of Exhumation
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have begun investigating information regarding the death of Sutrimo, which has gone viral across mass media and social media. The police have stressed that they will professionally trace all information concerning the alleged unnatural death.
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that his party has received various pieces of information from the public sphere regarding this case. He emphasised that no matter how small the information about the loss of a person’s life, it will be a serious concern for investigators.
‘We express our condolences on the passing of Mr S. Polda Metro Jaya obtained this information from media colleagues, both online media, social media and television. We will certainly investigate it,’ said Budi in Central Jakarta on Monday (27/7).
Currently, he said, investigators are still in the stage of gathering facts to ascertain whether Sutrimo’s death was a natural event or involved criminal elements. The police are also reviewing various documents and circulating photographs as part of deepening the results of the crime scene investigation.
Although the investigation is ongoing, Budi revealed that to date there has been no official report from the victim’s family. The police have urged the family to report immediately if they feel there are irregularities so that the handling can be carried out pro justitia.
‘We are giving space to the victim’s family who are still in a state of mourning. If the family feels there are irregularities, please make a report to Polda Metro Jaya,’ he added.
Regarding technical investigative steps, the police are open to the possibility of carrying out an exhumation or disinterment if necessary. This action is one of the medico-legal options to ascertain the exact cause of the victim’s death through the applicable investigation stages.
In addition to exhumation, the police will also conduct a sweep of CCTV footage and other legal measures according to procedure. Polda Metro Jaya has pledged to provide further updates as the process of deepening the facts in the field progresses.
